Fairy Princess

We stumbled upon this little purple fairy and thought she was so cute, we might as well snap some pictures.

Violet loves to sit on her new bike. She doesn't GO very fast, but she has a great time! Here very favorite toy in the whole house: the coffee table! She climbs up, over and through it over and over again. Who knew?

Par-Tay!!

We had a great Birthday Celebration on Saturday night. Violet did great but did not get NEARLY as messy as we had hoped eating her very own cake!
She did figure out that it was easier to just lean down and bite it instead of using her hands.
Earlier she ate her Birthday Banana for dinner. I love that she'll wear the hats!
Opening presents with mom...
I made her a star birthday cake for the occasion -

And cupcakes for everybody else:
Violet's Uncle Trent was in town for her party too. She thinks he's pretty cool!

Violet is (almost) ONE!!!

It's so hard to believe that one year ago I was sitting around, going about my daily routine, with no IDEA that this most wonderful, adorable, incredible VIOLET was about to make her appearance! It's pretty crazy!

Here is little trip down memory lane..

And here she is showing off her mouth full o' one-year-old teeth. She's got 3 on the top and 2 on the bottom. She makes good use of them and loves to gnaw on bread crust and RIP it off with gusto. Sort of like with crawling, she's probably thinking "Why didn't I try this before?"
We had a winter storm blow through over the last few days and we have a TON of fluffy white snow to show for it. We ventured outside today to "play" in it.
p.s. Violet hates - HATES her gloves. You would think I was taking away her little hands forever the way she cried when I put them on! She even tried to bit them off - the little animal! As you can see, she was not successful.
Childhood Rite of Passage: Eat Snow. Check.
Can't you just FEEL her excitement in this picture? I'm not sure she's a snow girl.
On the way home from the mall yesterday she fell asleep in her carseat like this. She's going to need a little Infant Chiropractic Adjustment after that! Her head should be up where the tag is on the right.
And here is a silly little movie of us going sledding in the front yard. Next time maybe I need to tie her in? That would get me the "Good Mommy Award" I'm sure!

Her birthday isn't until Thursday (the 24th) but I'm not sure I'll have time to post before then... so Happy Birthday little lady! You're the best thing EVER!!!

A day in the life...

Well. Look who finally figured out how to crawl hands n' knees style, just a month and a few weeks out of her spica cast! She did it once and I thought it was a fluke, but I put her back down and off she went! Sorry it's so dark, but it literally was the second time she did it!

Here is another video from today. We have noticed that she likes to hold a lot of things in her hands at the same time. Here she MUST hold the pen, the pencil AND the sheet of labels at the same time. She keeps dropping and dropping and dropping the pencil but keeps picking it up. I thought it was pretty funny!

My original plan for today was to do "a day in the life" pictures. But alas, we are a boring bunch. So instead here are the eating highlights 'cause they're cute.

Breakfast (toast and bananas)

Lunch (mac n' cheese and pomegranates)
She can finally drink from a sippy cup! It's pretty funny - she opens her mouth V-E-R-Y wide way before the cup gets anywhere near her. She also likes to dazzle us with her one-handed-sippying. She has apparently mastered it in a week!

"Mother. Stop. Taking. Pictures. Of. Me. While. I. Eat. Seriously."A messy, messy dinner (shepherds pie). But at least Daddy makes me smile!
For the record, she has also figured out how to nod yes and no (and seems to know what it means!), has started saying "Hi!" and waves. So cute!

Sunset PIctures

First, a belated Happy New Year to everyone!

I finally got my mom's camera today and downloaded (gulp) all 170 pictures we took one evening on the beach. Special thanks to the entire VanElderen clan (especially Ethan) for getting Violet to smile! Here are our favorites!

And finally with her Uncle Brett
We also had Christmas with Violet's Oma (Jon's mom) and her Uncle Mike when we got home. Here is Violet playing with her new favorite doll...

And watching Uncle Mike open a present.
